"Bulking" VS "Cutting"


If you are one of those people who keep getting stuck on their fitness journey because you are trying to do everything at once...you might want to try this approach! Curves in the right places, flat tummy, toned etc...I hear this everyday. If this is your "ideal goal" you will have to go through some phases. I mean think about it ...trying to achieve a flat tummy and a big booty at the same time is impossible for some.


*Impossible-for those who find it hard to keep the weight on/off...not impossible for those who are genetically blessed 😇


This body “goal” takes work. And essentially gaining weight in the right places and losing fat in desired areas are two different goals that require completely different approaches.

What is bulking?

Bulking is a period of time when the goal is to...

1. Build muscle

2. Gain weight

3. Increase strength


Through this period you will INCREASE your calories and decrease your cardio.



What is cutting?

Cutting is a period of time when the primary goal is to...

1. Lose fat

2. Get leaner


Through this period you will DECREASE your calories or be in a deficit, while increasing your cardio.



To be very clear, with the exception of a very small percentage, this can not be accomplished simultaneously. Bulking can take 3-6 months*, the shredding process may require another 3-4 months*, but as long as you are consistent and persistent you can do it!!!
